Frequently Asked Questions about Puzzle Cult
What materials are your puzzles made from?
I use 1/8” thick sublimated hardboard. While not the highest of quality, it's good enough to get my ideas and puzzles off the ground. I plan on upgrading to a UV printer for the highest quality prints as soon as possible.
Why no supplied images?
In my research I found that wood cut puzzles from past generations typically didn’t provide the artwork as an added challenge. There are a LOT of puzzle companies out there and pretty much all of them provide the artwork… in the end I felt like keeping that tradition going is fun and I wanted to create something different and more challenging for experienced puzzle makers.
Plus, I’ve been making puzzles as long as I can remember and I never look at the box art. I think of it as part challenge and part fun and it’s come in very handy when doing puzzle making contests.
On occasion I might include supplied art with orders and I also will be running promotions and contests where I will give out art to those who make the puzzles and photograph them completed.
Also, to help keep it fun, I might have the cut pattern be slightly different or even upside-down from the photo provided.
How does your rating system work?
A basic 1-5 system with 1 being the easiest and 5 being the hardest.
I test every puzzle, so it’s basically based on how hard I think the puzzle is from an art and cut pattern standpoint. Some will have tough art that has basic pieces, some have basic art with tougher shaped pieces and some will include both tough art and tough shaped pieces!
Each rating is relative to the size of the puzzle.
Who takes the photos and designs the art?
Photos are taken by me or purchased from a photographer. Each puzzle label includes the name of the photographer and a website/social media link if applicable.
All graphic designs are original works of art done by me and noted on each label.
Do all puzzles come with the same piece cuts?
No! I work to create custom whimsy piece shapes based on the subject matter or theme of the photo or artwork.
Each puzzle does include our custom Puzzle Cult whimsy piece that is hand-signed with date of production or date of production and edition number on limited edition designs.
What’s the best long-term care for my puzzle?
Use the supplied bag to store your puzzle. Keep away from exposure to water, extreme temperatures, vacuums and pets. Not recommended for children under the age of 3.
Do you have replacement pieces?
No, not at this time. Due to the process of creating the puzzles it would be hard to create an exact replacement piece that lines up perfectly with the photo/art. I might be able to offer them in the future as I improve the process.
Do you do custom puzzles?
Not at this time. I will offer custom puzzles in the future as I expand my puzzle sizes and selections.
